Substitutions can help you convert conventional recipes to Keto or Low-Carb.  Here are some that will help you get started with Keto.

Sugar - There are different options depending on your use of the sugar.

  • Hot or cold drinks - Liquid sweeteners like Stevia Clear work well here.
  • Baking - Allulose works best to substitute granular and powdered sugar. Use a blender to make the granular allulose powdered..

Baking Powder - The cream of tartar can trigger anyone with an egg allergy.  Substitute with 25% baking soda and 75% activator.  You can activate with an acid such as lemon juice, true lemon powder, distilled vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or buttermilk.  Choose the flavor that works best with what you are baking.

Eggs - If you have an egg allergy, you can substitute with different types of replacements, but be careful to avoid high-carb solutions such as applesauce.  Go for lower-carb options such as flax eggs.

Cornstarch and Flour Thickeners - Depending on what you are making, you have options here too.  For pan gravies, cream cheese works amazing.  Gelatin, arrowroot, and xanthum gum are some other options.  For example, the arrowroot works well in place of the eggs in a lemon bar.
